Have you ever been in the situation that you tagged your posts, but they won’t appear when searching for that specific tag? Then you might have used a hyphen in your tag, which is obviously a very bad idea on Tumblr.
As Tumblr is currently lacking off something like a “Posts by Author” feature in group blogs, I had to workaround that by creating tags on each single posts which are the same as the authors name to be able to trigger a tag search to show all related posts for that specific author. That worked quite well, excepting for one author and it turned out to be an annoying weakness of Tumblr: hyphens are evil.
Hyphens are getting interpreted as spaces which obviously break the search for the given tag - just to keep that in mind spaces are represented by a plus (
+) - and results in a “no posts found” state. You might be one of the sharper knives in the drawer and try to workaround that by URL encoding the hyphen (%2d), but that would be to no avail. The only working solution is to abstain from hyphens in your tags and additionally you should spend a thought or two on removing them from your username, because you will never be notified about posts with your username in the tags as long as the username carries a hyphen.
By the way, you will not find a single word about that weakness when checking the tag usage documenation of Tumblr.
…furthermore, from what i’ve read of other people’s complaints, tumblr’s ‘support’ on the matter is “change all your tags to not include hyphens”. UNACCEPTABLE.
why should users have to use incorrect tags (or refrain from using hyphens in usernames) because you fucked up the way that tags work?
they used to work just fine however far back it was i first set up my blurb, i know ‘cos i checked every link; tumblr at some point changed the behaviour of hyphen-inclusive tags. and THEY FUCKED UP, but refuse to acknowledge it.

Random thought: can ‘tumblr’ be a verb? Or would the appropriate verb be ‘to tumbl’?
